Homecoming 2009 – November 2 - 7
The 2009 Homecoming activities were enjoyed by all. During the course of Homecoming week, students and staff dressed to assigned themes each day, all classroom doors in the building were decorated, and everyone was scurrying around to prepare for the big Homecoming Day and a visit from the Governor. A parade was held Friday morning with all students participating in some form. The elementary students chanted as they marched down the streets. The junior high and high school students piled onto trailers, a fire truck, horses, four wheelers, and gators. After the parade, all retreated to the football field for a picnic. A bonfire was held Friday night at the school.

On Saturday, the day began with registration for the Exes at 12:00 pm in our new facility. Of course, we had to show this new building off to all the former students who had not yet seen it. I think all were impressed. The opening ceremony began at 1:30 with the Paint Creek Boy Scout Troop presenting the Colors. Our special guest and speaker was Governor Rick Perry, a 1968 graduate of Paint Creek School. Governor Perry took time out of his busy schedule to address the crowd of over 300 and provide words of inspiration. Following his speech, a portrait was presented to Governor Perry who in turn presented it to the school. This portrait of Governor Perry is now proudly hanging in the foyer of our new facility.

A Pep Rally was held following the program to get the football team fired for their game against the Rule Bobcats. The exes then had time to visit and rekindle relationships with former classmates. The Senior Class hosted a meal before the game in the school cafeteria. Other beginning festivities before the game included the introduction of the seniors, cheerleaders, football players, and their parents. Kick-off was at 7:30 pm with the Pirates taking the lead soon after the whistle blew. The Pirates showed a strong effort, but eventually fell to the Bobcats. Half-time activities included the crowing of the Homecoming King & Queen, Brennan Medford & Felysha Walker and the Coming Home King & Queen, Jerry Terrell & Ina Bittner.

With Paint Creek having Homecoming only every four years, we tend to go all out to make it the best it can be for both our current and former students. We can honestly say, this year was no exception. Way to go, Pirates!!!
